Let's Read challenge is a great resource for students who are ready to connect their oral/aural music skills to reading, writing, and composing. Similar to "Welcome to the Music Class" challenge, this resource expands to more complex rhythm functions, and includes worksheets to help your students become comfortable with reading, writing, and composing music. This sequence is designed for Music Learning Theory inspired classroom.
The PowerPoint features melody, chord roots, rhythm patterns, and melodic ostinati (ostinati with added rhythmic variety).
There are three sections according to difficulty:
Rhythm patterns that feature dotted quarter notes and eighth note triplets (macro/micro)
Rhythm patterns that feature dotted quarter notes, eighth note triplets, and dotted quarter rests (macro/micro and macrobeat rests)
Rhythm patterns that feature dotted quarter notes, eighth note triplets, and quarter note/eighth note pairs (macro/micro and elongations)
Let's Read! is inspired and guided by the sequential approach to literacy as described in Music Learning Theory by Dr. Edwin Gordon.
