Support struggling readers by enhancing decoding and comprehension abilities with these 27 strategy cards.

What's included?


• strategy "windows" to support decoding. The windows show an illustration of and suggested technique adjacent to an open space (cut after lamnating) for students to look through and practice. Examples of some techniques include:"mouth-a-sound" "chunk like chocolate" "break like a cookie" "stretch like gum" "flip like a pancake" "point as you go" "cupcake (compound) words". Also includes a "mystery word" window which comes with a wand that encourages students to conceal the tricky word and look for picture clues or other text clues.

• "tricks to try" Cue Card perfect to add to a student's desk or use as bookmarks

•segmenting and blending Cue Cards including "bounce and slide" and "dots and line"

• Alphabet Mouth Shapes features each letter and the accompanying mouth shape clipart.

• super pointers (craft sticks needed) and convenient storage pocket. These are super hero clipart cutouts that can be attached to a craft stick and used to help students focus on a given word.


•Story Stick Include a story map with detachable pieces (stored on a trip of velcro on the back the card) will help students recall important components including character, setting, problem, solution, important events etc).

•Story Hand A visual that encourages students to retell a story using the "wh" strategy and using their fingers to ensure they've included sufficient detail.

•Detail Detector, Focus Window and Detail "Finder" magnifying glass cutout encourages students to search for, and focus on, relevant details.

•Stop &amp Recap Signs When taped to a paper clip these signs can be attached to a page as reminders for students to stop and discuss what they've read so far.

•Self Monitoring Comprehension Checklists Use with detachable checkmarks (store on back of the card with Velcro) or reproduce so students can write on. 2 checklists are included, one featuring story comprehension and the other targets informational text.

•"Reading is Thinking" Sentence stem cue card to help students think about and discuss what they are reading

The cards are 2.6x7.02 inches and can be stored on rings for easy access.
