Note: Some of my products have some “out there” ideas. Make sure to look at the preview before purchasing. Everyone's classroom is unique and while these lessons work within my classroom, that may not be the case in another’s room.

"What we want is to see the child in pursuit of knowledge, and not knowledge in pursuit of the child."
-George Bernard Shaw

There comes a time during many an educator's school year that the dreaded research paper rears its head. It can be an intimidating task for both the educator and the student. I've seen the research paper process taught and sold in many ways. What I've attempted to do here at Wake Up Sunshine is to make this monumental task more manageable for my teenage students.

The guide offered here is something that I've put together over the past couple years and have used with great success with my students. It may not work for everyone, as all students and teachers are different. It’s worth noting that my students have completed my guides on opening sentences, closing sentences, introductory paragraphs, closing paragraphs, and the full W.W.I.P. guide writing prompts (also available in my store) before attempting the research paper. I’ve included some of the items in this guide, but not everything. I feel it would be overkill and too overwhelming.

This guide touches on the aspects of developing a sound topic, analyzing its nature, proper citation techniques and much more. It also really drives home the importance of the thesis statement (which could be a mini-unit on its own).

If the concept of the research paper gives you chills, then I believe this guide will work well for you and your students. If you choose to purchase this guide, and you ever get lost in this large undertaking, feel free to email me for help before giving up. I'll stay in contact through email, phone, or whatever to help you through the process.

A final note is to make sure you read through the guide and play with all the hyperlinks, so you are comfortable in how the guide works. When you're comfortable with it, it will be much easier to lead your students through the process. Some pages have quite a bit of writing, in which many questions would be answered, so make sure the students read what's provided.

Therefore, if the research paper is approaching on your "to do" list, and you're not sure where to turn, feel free to give this resource a go. I'm confident it will help your students get through the challenges the research paper can bring forth.
