Start your school year with letter identification! Using the Letter-A-Day approach, students get exposure to and practice with all 26 letters, their sounds, and words that begin with those sounds, but it is done in a quick, engaging way. The circle posters you create during Letter-A-Day will become an essential part of your classroom, and you'll get to know your students' individual needs during these mini lessons.

This resource is beneficial for students because not all students need explicit alphabet instruction that occurs over a long period of time. Using Letter-A-Day, teachers can establish a baseline for alphabetic knowledge, gain information about their students, and then decide which students are ready to move on and which students need more structured exposure to letters.

Not only do the activities included engage students, but they also help teachers with planning their mini lessons. Ideas are included, and teachers have the flexibility to use their own favorite resources to introduce the letters. The circle posters that are created will become one of the most-utilized resources in your classroom because students had a direct connection to making them. During writer's workshop or other work times, students will frequently look up and find words they need to support their writing development.

This resource was created to be done early in the school year. It provides a great foundation for learning more foundational skills. Once I teach Letter-A-Day, I move on to my rotation-model teaching with students in small groups to support their ability levels. Circle Poster Starters

-There are 26 starters to support the creation of circle posters during your mini lesson

-Each starter comes with 7 words that begin with that letter to support discussion of words with your students

-Teachers can use chart paper to create large circle posters that will be displayed around their room for student support

Letter-A-Day Response Sheets

-Each mini lesson will use its corresponding response sheet to give students practice with writing letters and identifying words that begin with its sound

-Teachers have the option to use these response sheets in a variety of ways

Letter-A-Day Cut and Glue

-These cut and glue activities are perfect for center activities to support what was taught during mini lessons

-Teachers can also use these activities during small group instruction later on to support students' letter identification
