Memory Games - Letter Combinations - Memory Matching Games
1) Preschool and Kindergarten
2) Grades: 1 and 2
My goal as a teacher has always been to create educational resources that inspire students to get excited about learning.
Matching Memory Games are known to improve memory and concentration in students. This Letter Combinations Memory Game was created to help students learn to recognize the letter combinations commonly found in words and to pronounce the proper sounds these letter combinations make. The game is educational and entertaining for students. Matching Memory Games are great for teachers that need to adapt games for multiple skill levels. For beginners use fewer cards as they advance incorporate more cards. For advanced students use all the cards. The game can be played individually, with a partner, or in small groups.
The game cards were designed so that students could sit across from one another and both of the students could read the letter combinations on the game cards.
This Letter Combinations Memory Game has a unique twist on a classic style memory game. The game can be used with or without a die. The die was incorporated into the game to add another level of excitement! If a player rolls a 1, 2, 3, or 4, he or she can turn over the number of cards equal to the number they rolled on the die. For example: If a player rolls a 3 they turn over 3 cards or if a player rolls a 4 they turn over 4 cards. However, if a player rolls a 5 or 6, they lose a turn.
There are two sets of cards for the letter combination "oo" and "ar", because these letter combinations make two different sounds and are spelled exactly the same.
1) The letter combination “oo” makes two different sounds. These sounds can be heard in the words book and loose.
2) The letter combination “ar” makes two different sounds. These sounds can be heard in the words car (R sound) and care (air sound).
3) When the students turn over a card that has "oo" or "ar", make the students say both sounds the letter combinations make.
BONUS: USE GAME CARDS AS FLASH CARDS

FYI about the Creator:
I am a certified teacher and I have taught and tutored for most of my career. I developed these teaching tools as an opportunity to share with you my resources that are proven winners in any educational environment. In designing my products, I kept in mind that not all students learn at the same level or time, and so I have made them all similar in style, but different in levels so that other students are not aware that others are either ahead or behind the general class; hence, that is why you can purchase products that work for more than one grade level. I hope you enjoy the materials I have created and wish you much success with your students too!
