This is a simple but necessary sheet for my students. It helps them understand the structure of letters, syllables and words with reference lines at the top, bottom, right, left and center. It helps students that make reversals, leave no space between words or struggle with alignment. The blank sheet is double sided and a sample of how I use it with my students follows. The words that we practice are either words we are studying from the current guided reading book or multi-syllabic words that we use to study syllable types. I walk the students through tracing the words, understanding the application of syllable types (for decoding and encoding), using visual, auditory and tactile senses to practice writing the words (while hearing the sounds and feeling the letter formation as our eyes focus on the structure and sequence). After studying the words, they have the opportunity to create their own open-ended writing piece using the words (and they have actually grown to love creative writing). Hope this helps and enjoy!
