Letter Identification is a necessary skill in Pre-K and in Kindergarten. It is also important to introduce them to many different font styles so that they are not thrown off when they begin to read. To help my little ones with letter identification, I created a letter hunt. I give them a big stack of magazines and ask them to find as many capital/lower case letters as possible. At the end of the activity, I reward those who have found the most. The children love this activity. I have used it for morning work, word work for daily five (beginning of the year), centers, and for an activity for substitute teachers. I usually give them about 20 minutes but this activity could possibly go to 40 minutes.
