How to play: Decide which worksheet your students will use. Print one per student. I love to use cardstock for extra durability but you can copy on regular copy paper as well. Have your students write their names in the center on the back of the worksheet. Determine what skills you want your students to practice: matching capital to capital letter, matching lowercase to lowercase, matching cross cases, working in sequence or out of sequence for additional support for your students.
Once each student has their paper, you place your deck of cards face down in a "pond" for picking. One card is selected at a time and your students find the corresponding letter around the perimeter of their worksheet. The letters need to be viewed by rotating the worksheet like a steering wheel to see all letters in an upright position. So that needs to be explicitly taught to your students. Using a hole punch, students eliminate the selected letter or corrsponding letter using a hole punch. Continue this for an appropriate amount of time, over a single session or multiple sessions. The additional fine motor practice is so helpful for young children, and often challenging for young children. I like give my students any opportunity to work their small muscles in their hands.
