A collection of 9 stations plus several FREEBIES that help students learn and independently practice the /j/ sound. See a list of all the FREEBIES below :).
This includes a student choice board with files and directions for accompanying station activities. All activities print PERFECTLY in black and white or color!
These stations are designed to be used for one week where students select one station per day or could also be used for two weeks in which all stations will be completed by the end of the two week period.
The open nature of the activities allows for differientiated levels to be met with your students while working on the same concept.
Station 1: My Jj Book: Students draw a picture on each page of a word that begins or ends with letter Jj. Then label the picture in the space below.
Challenge: Students will write sentences about the pictures they draw.
Station 2: Color, Cut, and Label: Students color the pictures that have the /j/ sound at the beginning or end. Then they cut them out, glue them to their mat, and label each word.
Station 3: Build a Word: Students will use letter tiles to build words in the boxes. Students will then write the word on the line next to where they built the word.
Station 4: Word Search: Students will read and illustrate the word. Then find the words in the word search. After all words are found, students can write a sentence.
Station 5: “Jumping Jellyfish Compound Word Match” Students will match pictures to make compound words. Then students will write 4 sentences using 4 of the compound words you matched. Then students can match compound words to the matching picture on 3 different practice pages.
Station 6: Stamp and Write: Students look at the pictures. Pound their fist as they say the word aloud. Stamp the beginning sound then write all the sounds you hear in the word. Finally, write a sentence about your favorite Jj picture.
Station 7 Picture Sort: Have students sort the pictures onto the correct side (Gg or Jj). Have them label the pictures.
