Updated 2016! Letter & Letter Sound Match in the Pumpkin Patch is a fun and seasonal way to practice or assess letter recognition and letter sounds (beginning sounds). Students use dot painters (bingo dabbers), dry erase markers, bingo chips, counters, crayons, etc. to mark or "pick" pumpkins for festive fun.

You receive:

- 52 individual pumpkin patch letter mats (26 with QR code audio instructions and 26 without QR codes for oral instructions) and answer keys
- 2 review mats for letters A-M (1 uppercase and 1 lowercase)
- 2 review mats for letters N-Z (1 uppercase and 1 lowercase)
- 26 individual letter sound (beginning sound) pumpkin patch mats (1 for each letter of the alphabet) and answer keys
- a blank pumpkin patch mat to customize for additional practice
- pumpkin picture cards

You receive 2 sets of letter recognition mats - one set without QR codes and one set with QR codes. Use the set without QR codes for teacher-directed activities and give oral instructions. Use the set with QR codes in student centers, in your early finishers basket, in your listening center, or send them home for extra practice. When the QR code is scanned students hear audio instructions. For example, "Find the letter A pumpkins.". Practices both letter recognition and listening skills.

★★★ Please note ★★★ This product uses QR codes that link to files stored on the internet. Please scan the QR code in the preview file to test to see if your school devices will open the files prior to purchasing (requires wifi).

Any free QR code reader will work for these letter mats. You can easily download a free QR code reader from the App Store or Google Play.

The pumpkin patch mats for letter recognition have pumpkins with uppercase and lowercase letters on them. Students can distinguish between uppercase and lowercase letters by using one color to mark the uppercase letters and another color to mark the lowercase letters.

The review mats can be used to practice or assess multiple letters. They can be used in conjunction with the pumpkin picture cards to practice or assess beginning sounds as well as letter recognition and set up as a fun center.

The pumpkin patch mats for letter sounds (beginning sounds) have pumpkins with pictures on them. Students hunt for pumpkins with pictures beginning with the featured letter.

Perfect for small group instruction, literacy centers, fall party stations, assessment, morning work, extra practice, etc! Fall colors can be used for marking the letters for festive autumn fun! They are the perfect addition to your fall, autumn curriculum!

Supports Common Core Standards: RF.K.1.D, RF.K.3.A, RF.K.3.B

Individual Letter Mats:

Teacher-Directed – The mats without QR codes can be used during small groups or teacher led instruction. Give students a letter mat. Tell them the letter to find. Students mark all of the uppercase and lowercase letters. You can choose to have students distinguish between uppercase and lowercase letters by having them mark the uppercase letters with one color and the lowercase letters with another. They can be used for practice, remediation, or assessment. (I did not put directions on these mats because I did not want my students to be able to look at the directions and just match the correct letter.)

QR Code Mats – These mats can be used at centers, in your early finishers basket, sent home for practice, etc. Students scan the QR code, listen to the audio directions, and mark the correct pumpkins. Answer keys are provided.

Letter Mats for A-M and N-Z:

These mats can be used alone or with the pumpkin picture cards. Option 1 – Orally state a letter and have students mark the letter on their mat.
Option 2 – Show students a pumpkin picture card and have students mark the beginning sound.
Option 3 – Students choose a pumpkin picture card from a pile and then mark the beginning sound on their mat or place the card on the correct pumpkin.

Letter Sound Mats

Students use dry erase markers, bingo chips, counters, or dot painters (bingo dabbers) to mark all the pumpkins that have pictures with the correct beginning sound.

A blank pumpkin patch and blank pumpkin cards are included so you may program them to fit your students’ needs for additional practice with letters, numbers, colors, shapes, etc.
