Help teach your Preschooler or Kinder Kid letter sounds and names with this fun board game.
Prepare game: Print out cards (laminate for longer use), and cut. Print out game board (I typically print it on color cardstock to make it colorful and laminate for repeated use.) You will need one dice and 3-6 game pieces for students (I used plastic bingo markers I had). Put everything into a gallon Ziploc baggie or a Tupperware container. Label it.
This is how we play in my class:
-Give each student a game piece. I usually just pick the kid to the left or right to go 1st but if you want to be fair you can have them roll the dice and the person with the largest number goes first.
-Put the cards face down.
-Player 1 should pick a card from the top of the deck, say the name of the picture, and identify the letter that makes that sound. If they are correct they get to roll the dice and move. If they are incorrect they do not get to move.
-Continue to play until someone reaches the finish line.
-NOTE: Other players should agree/disagree with answer before student moves forward.
You can make variations to this game by
-having students say letter sound and name. ex. bear, /b/, “B”
-say another word that begins with that letter.
-Include digraph cards.
After playing this game with me I put this in their Literacy Games Center so they can play during groups or if they finish work early!!
