Teachers know that letter knowledge is a pre-requisite to the acquisition of reading skills. Before students can decode text, they must be fluent in recognizing letters and sounds. Recent research confirms that children's ability in primary grades to identify letter names and sounds is a strong predictor of reading readiness and future reading success.
This resource is one I created in order to use during Letter Naming Fluency Response to Intervention (RtI) time. Each RAN (Rapid Automatized Naming) board features five letters. After the first few boards, only one new letter is added at a time. I have included 21 boards with all lowercase letters, 21 boards with all uppercase letters, and 21 boards with a mixture of both. I use these for DIBELS Next Letter Naming Fluency RtI, but they could also be used for practicing letter sound fluency. The only prep needed is to print and go! Boards may be laminated or placed in clear sleeves in order to use them from year to year. They can also be sent home with students as a home-to-school connection.
I hope this resource saves you time and helps your students make progress in their letter naming fluency!
