Alphabet Games Kindergarten Letter Sounds and CVC Words. This Common Core based reading game is a fun way for students to practice letter sounds and CVC words. It comes with a directions page, letter cards, a letter sound page (for parents), CVC word cards, game pieces, a 2-page game board, and 4 writing response pages (2 in color and 2 in black-and-white).
I recommend using only one die so play lasts longer. I usually include both sets of cards and write a note telling parents which set to use.
I plan on making one copy for my language arts center and another to send home. I am also going to purchase an extra Three Little Pigs book to include with the game. Students will take turns toting the game and book home in a plastic bag.
This game addresses the following Common Core Standards* for kindergarten language arts:
RF.K.1b Recognize that spoken words are represented in written language by specific sequences of letters.
RF.K.1d Recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
RF.K.2c Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllable spoken words.
RF.K.2d Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words.1 (This does not include CVCs ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.)
L.K.1a Print many upper- and lowercase letters.
L.K.2c Write a letter or letters for most consonant and short-vowel sounds (phonemes).
L.K.2d Spell simple words phonetically, drawing on knowledge of sound-letter relationships.
