Letter Recognition Activity - Feed the Alphabet Monster
This is a great activity for preschool and kindergarten age kids to practice their letter names and sounds. The children can each build their own Alphabet Monster and then feed him letters through the hole in his mouth. It's fun, interactive, and a great way to practice the alphabet.
In this packet:
4 Monster Templates
1 Sheet Alphabet Letter Squares, upper and lowercase
How it works:
Choose one or more monster designs, and print one for each child. The children can cut out their monsters, color them, and glue them together with a glue stick. (You can use tape instead of glue if you prefer.) They then cut out their alphabet letter cards, and place them in a pile to feed to the monster. The teacher can call out a letter name or sound for the children to feed their monster, show them a picture that starts with that sound, or have the children just say the letter name or sound as they feed their monster. There are lots of ways to play.
Once the children are finished, the monster's top opens up to dump out the alphabet squares, so the children can play again another time.
Printing instructions: The monsters work best if printed on landscape view while the alphabet cards should be printed in portrait. You can use card stock or printer paper depending on how many times you want to use the monsters.
I hope your kids enjoy them, and let me know if you have any questions. I am happy to help.
