These 32 pages offer an ongoing yearlong center for your literacy block. They are differentiated in difficulty to meet the needs of a wide range of students. Included:
• Letter recognition and letter sound recognition
• High frequency words
• Simple sentences incorporating high frequency words and common words.
• Complex sentence activities, including “fill in the blank,” “cloze,” and “word choice.”
• Students can work alone or with partner. Great for your pre-readers to your emergent reader.
To add to your students’ fluency, add mini timers to the center location. I make it a game. I have a student do a page with the timer. We count up the number of letters, words, or sentences accomplished. Then we review the missed items…sometimes just a few as to not overwhelm them. Then I ask them to do the sheet again. Invariably, they see improvement that can provide them with an immediate reward of their learning.
Targets: Phonological and phonemic awareness; alphabetic principle; high frequency word work; letter, sound, word and reading fluency.
Recommendation: I have them on color cardstock, using colors to code different difficulty levels and they are laminated (dry erase for continual use).
