If a snowman had a backpack, what would be inside? What about Cupid, a Leprechaun or Santa? Incorporate new seasonal games into your literacy center ideas with eight holiday character backpacks. This fast-paced game is ideal for 2-4 players.
Print holiday backpacks and playing cards on cardstock. Cut-out the playing cards and any of the following flashcard sets:
- letter recognition upper case
- letter recognition lower case
- Dolch pre-primer word list
- Dolch primer word list
Give each student a backpack. Place the playing cards and selected flashcard set into a pile face down. Students take turns picking a card. If a literacy flashcard is picked, students either identify the letter and/or read the word (depending on which set of cards is being used). If one of the objects that belongs in the backpack is picked, the student places it in the backpack. The student who finds all of the objects in the backpack first, wins! They will learn their targeted literacy skills along the way!
