This attractive set of ready to print, color or black/ gray/ white, uppercase letter flashcards are designed to actively engage preschool and kindergarten students in a Stack the Deck letter recognition activity. It can be implemented as part of your whole class introductory lessons or used as an intervention activity to provide repetitive practice with individual or small groups of students who struggle with letter recognition. This activity allows you to hone in on one specific letter at a time.

There is one complete set of uppercase letter flashcards and then 26 pages with 6 of each letter, each provided in both color and black/ gray/ white. Print, laminate, and cut a complete set of single letter cards. Choose the letter to practice. Print, laminate, and cut 2 pages of your target letter, giving you 12 additional cards with that letter. Stack the deck by combining the extra letter cards with the complete set of single letter cards.

Show students one letter card at a time. If the letter shown is not the target letter, your students stay quiet and still. If the letter shown is the target letter, your students say the letter and perform a designated motion. For example, they might say b and balance on one foot. At least one idea is included for each letter. This is a simple, yet fun activity. And yes, you could make your own flashcards!
