I am a Speech Language Therapist in a public school setting. I go into each of my kindergarten classes once a week to work on phonemic awareness. I work on the sounds in the order they are done in the classroom. This product was developed to use when I push into the kindergarten classes. It includes pictures for all sounds and includes digraphs. It is be used to review and to check for letter/sound recognition. I will do this activity after each 4 letters.
What do I need to do before I can use this product?
1. Print the star/letter cards on card stock. Print enough for each student in the class. Cut apart.
2. Print and laminate the picture cards. Cut apart.
Activity: Each student needs to have one star/letter card and a clothespin for this activity . The teacher sorts out the picture cards that have the letters/sounds that are on the student card. The sorted picture cards are mixed up. The teacher says, “Listen to the words I say. Clip your clothespin onto the letter that makes the beginning sound of the word that I say. Listen carefully. When you are done pinning, hold up your card so I can check to see that you have the correct letter pinned. Ready? Let’s begin.”
I have included a form that the teacher can use to keep track of the students progress. To do with random letters, use the letter strips that are also included.
