Level One words begin with a consonant that “continues” followed by a short vowel followed by a consonant that “stops”.
(s/z, f/v, th/th, m, l, r, sh) + (a, e, i, o, u) + (p/b, t/d, g/ck)
This is easiest pattern of words for young and struggling readers because the initial consonant blends into the vowel and has a definite stop with the final consonant.
