Have both hands-on center and pocket chart activities AND engaging, interactive digital activities for fun letter sounds (beginning sounds) practice. This bundle provides multiple ways to introduce, review, practice, or assess beginning letter sounds, phonemic awareness, visual discrimination skills.

    Print Resource

You'll receive 26 letter sorting mats (one for each letter of the alphabet) and picture cards (3 cards for each consonant, 6 cards for each vowel - 3 short vowel cards, 3 long vowel cards) to use in learning centers or small groups. Students sort the picture cards into 2 columns: "starts with the letter" or "does not start with the letter".

Mix and match the letter sorting mats and picture cards for differentiated and targeted practice.

You'll also receive pocket chart header cards that can be used with the picture cards. Place the headers in your pocket chart and have students sort the picture cards under the correct heading.

You can have students sort the cards according to "starts with the letter" or "does not start with the letter" OR they can sort them according to individual letter sounds. For example, "starts with C" and "starts with D" for phonological awareness practice.

This resource all includes a black/white ink-saving version which is perfect for take-home practice or individual use.

Please note: The letter X cards have pictures that begin and end with x. There are picture cards for both long and short vowel sounds.

Digital Boom Cards & Google Slides

This bundle includes 2 digital versions from which to choose - Google Slides and Boom Cards.

These interactive digital resources help your students become fluent in beginning sounds/letter sounds as well as visual discrimination skills and phonemic awareness which are important reading foundational skills.

Each includes 26 unique cards for each letter of the alphabet. Each card has 6 pictures that students sort by dragging and dropping them to the correct column on the clipboard (Begins with the letter, Does NOT begin with the letter). This sorting activity gives students practice in visual discrimination, phonemic awareness, and phonics.

Please note: The letter X card has both beginning and ending sound pictures (x-ray, box, ax) and says "Starts or ends with Xx" and "Does NOT start or end with Xx".

The Boom Cards are self-checking and the Google Slides come with an answer key.
