Writing a friendly letter includes paying attention to many small details. This set of letter writing checklists allows students to review their own work to ensure they have included everything, and it also includes checklists for peer editing, so that by the time the teacher sees the letter, hopefully all parts are included correctly!
This product includes two different types of letter writing checklists, each with a variety of versions. The first set of checklists is geared toward a basic friendly letter format with a body that includes a topic sentence, three detail sentences, and a conclusion sentence (see Product Thumbnails). The second set of checklists is geared toward a more general type of body (See Product Preview). Each set includes a checklist for the writer to use (with and without a line for student's number), two different checklists for one or more partners or peer editors, and a corresponding checklist for the teacher to use as a rubric for assessment. Both sets include a black and white version and a color-coordinated version.
I laminate the colored set of checklists for my students to use with dry erase markers, so that I have less paper to deal with!
Included in the checklist are the following sections:
These sections include aspects such as capitalization, punctuation, indentation, complete sentences, right alignment, proper spelling, and more!
