This lesson includes a variety of fun, effective activities developed to help students learn and retain the meanings of difficult vocabulary words in Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail.”
The lesson includes a dictionary of the words with activity suggestions for learning them as well as a culminating activity called a visual vocab in which students are encouraged to use technology to create short presentations or videos which teach a word to a wider audience.
The activity includes the dictionary and a visual vocab activity handout and grading rubric.
Suitable for English and history teachers, this activity covers Common Core State Standards for reading informational texts, writing, and listening and speaking.
It is one component of our 71-page unit on King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail.”
