My name is Anna Marie Woloszyn, and I have been teaching for 14 years. I received my Masters in Literacy from Michigan State University and have a passion for helping students learn go read. These printable tiles give teachers a way to focus in on the phonics of words. Many struggling readers do not hear combination sounds, but will try to sound out each individual letter. These cards allow students and teachers to manipulate the letters and will show students letter combinations. By learning these combinations, sounding out words is not as difficult because they have a schema to fall back on for sounds formed by multiple letters. Included with the tiles are 4 colored disks to print. These disks are to use once the individual tile sounds have been mastered. The disks are to use to place one sound on each color to form words. By adding the visual color to each sound, students will continue to distinguish between sounds in a word, including sounds made by more than one letter. I have also included some blank boxes for you to add blends, digraphs, prefixes or suffixes as you need them. These tile cards are appropriate for beginning readers all the way through struggling readers in the upper grades.
