My name is Anna Marie Woloszyn and this is my 14th year teaching. I earned a Masters in Literacy from Michigan State University, and have a passion for helping struggling readers find success. Many struggling readers do not realize that letter combinations often make one sound. They attempt to sound out each individual letter and spend a lot of time working through sounds. As they utilize these tiles, students will begin to learn the sounds made by multiple letters. In addition to blends, digraphs, prefixes and suffixes, I have included a few blank tiles for you to add more as your students come across them. Also in the document are 4 colored circles that are to b e used once the individual tiles are mastered. Once the sounds are learned, students can begin to create words using the colored circles. The different colors will help students to differentiate between the sounds in the word, including sounds made by multiple letters. It will help remind them that a sound can be made by multiple letters. Can be used by beginning readers all the way through to struggling readers in the upper grades.
