This teaching lesson is for students to reflect on their lives in and out of school through a letter writing activity. I use this as a back to school year writing activity however there is an editable version included so that this can also be an end of the year writing activity. Students will document their lives by writing about
• their likes and dislikes
• what they are proud of
• problems and concerns
• their favorites
• their world
• hobbies and activities that they enjoy
• people in their life
• their future
Included you will receive:
→ one page of letter requirement. This outlines what information should be in the letter.
→ one page graphic organizer to help brainstorm, sequence and guide student writing
→ 6 page questionnaire - I use this with my students who struggle writing lengthy assignments. Task is broken down to sentence writing rather than paragraph writing
→ rubric to assess student work
This product is differentiated for the various learners in your classroom. Students are expected to write a five paragraph letter using the requirements on the hand out. Reminders for friendly letter writing are included. Their is a graphic organizer included for students who need additional support. There is also a questionnaire included for those who have limited writing abilities.
This product is available as a blackline master or in color. There is also an editable version available. This allows you to control certain instructions to give you more flexibility. You can use it as a getting to know you activity or as an end of the year activity. You can hand it back at the end of the year or in their senior year of high school, which is what I normally do.
