This is a excellent beginning of the year assignment. It allows students to reflect on who they are and where they want to go. I use this to establish culture in my classroom. I tell them that everything they want to achieve can be had as long as they are willing to work for it and that they need to look closely at who they are now to see what they need to do to get there.
This assignment has directions and six different sections with ideas to help them think about what to write. The preview assignment only shows the first one. With purchase you will see the other 5 points and information to help prompt them with their writing.
This assignment is usually my first actual homework assignment where they can take it home and get creative. I tell them that they can bring pictures or use fun colors. I even tell them to have friends and family members write them letters. At the end of the first week of school, I give students an envelope and they seal up their own letters. Their words are their own. If you would like to not have them seal the letters, that is up to you. I have them sign their name on the front and seal them and collect them. I place them somewhere safe until the end of the year or I pass them on to the next year's teacher for senior scrapbooks. They make excellent additions for senior scrapbooks.
