Explore the sounds found in the English language! Complements Jolly Phonics!

Connect the sounds you hear to the printed sound:

· Show the child the letter on the front of the card.

· Say the sound made by the letter, i.e.,/ssssss/ as in snake.

· Play games to find the letter(s) of the sound that you have just practiced.

Record the sound – Print the letter or letters for the sound you hear.

Segmenting - Listen to hear the sounds in a word.

Blending - Push the sound together to read a word.

Please note:

· The transparent alphabet has 42 sounds. Words created with these sounds can be read and recorded.

· Some of the words have written sound combinations that are not easily read and are part of the opaque sounds… they are difficult to spell. They can be used orally for sounding and blending.

* There are three pictures for each of the 42 basic sounds and one picture for each of the letters that "do not follow the rules” (rule-breakers).

* This resource works well with the Jolly Phonics Program.
