In this assignment, students write letters from the point of view of an American soldier who volunteered to fight in the early years of WWI. I gave students creative freedom when it came to specifics like soldier's name, rank, who they were writing to. I only required that the contents of the letter include some of the items discussed in Requirement #1.
This page served as the assignment's directions and a grade sheet that would be returned to students. While the directions in this assignment were specific to WWI, it can be easily modified to fit any other conflict.
