Who doesn’t love mail?! In this activity, students will practice matching antonyms and synonyms. Humorous sentences allow deeper understanding of use in context as well as making vocabulary memorable!

The recipients: Aunt Nym: A rather scatterbrained but lovable personality, she always gets the message backwards!
Syn Nym: Aunt Nym’s sister is a bit of a know-it-all. No matter what you say to her, she will revise it with slightly different vocabulary.

This packet includes three sets of letters. The first, which targets opposites, contains 15 letters to Aunt Nym and 15 letters from Aunt Nym. Letters contain the “opposite” stamp. The second set targets synonyms and contains 15 letter to Syn Nym and 15 letters from Syn Nym. These letters contain the “same” stamp. The final set contains 8 letters to both Aunt Nym and Syn Nym with 8 responses from each Aunt Nym and Syn Nym.

To play, the child will make matches of letter "addresses" (single word, antonym or synonym match). Then, flip over the letters and read the funny exchange. Target pairs are always in bold. Each character has a different font/size to make organization easier.

Extra credit: Syn Nym's letters sometimes contain a "bonus" synonym. Can your student's catch these too? (Answer key included.)
