Provide students with authentic learning on MLK Day, Black History Month, or any time of the year! This paired text activity pack accompanies the Maya Angelou essay, "Encounter with Martin Luther King, Jr."
This resource includes guided text analysis handouts for students to use while reading the essay—a vocabulary study, reading questions, making connections, and a characterization chart. Then, students are asked to compose a letter to Dr. King, where they write about their perspective on the world today and evaluate what has or has not changed since his time. There are multiple final copy pages for students to complete their letters... which make perfect bulletin board displays!
Please see the full Table of Contents for the wealth of additional materials included in this activity pack!
**And, as an additional note, the text "Encounter with Martin Luther King, Jr." is NOT included in this resource due to copyright laws, but it can be found in many middle school or high school textbooks and is easily accessible online!
