Product Description
This product will provide phonics lessons for 1st graders in a digital format for whole or small group instruction. The slides are animated and engaging for today's learners. These phonics lessons follow the 1st grade Reading Wonders series, but they can be used for any guided reading program. You will have 5 days worth of lessons each week that take approximately 5-10 minutes a day to present during your word work mini-lesson time.
You can edit each PowerPoint slide to customize the words for your specific curriculum.

Semester 2: Unit 5 ~ Lesson Scope & Sequence:

5.1 R-Controlled (ar)
5.2 R-Controlled (er. ir, ur)
5.3 R-Controlled (or, ore, oar)
5.4 Diphthongs (ou & ow)
5.5 Diphthongs (oi & oy)

Teaching phonics should be a skill that helps our students become better readers and spellers. Being able to spell (encode) words also impacts a students ability to write well. The word work that we do with our students greatly impacts their future reading and writing success. This product uses digital animation to introduce new phonics mini-lessons (5-10 minutes) through PowerPoint presentation using a gradual release ~ I Do, You, Do , We Do model.

This product will give you thorough and focused phonics mini-lessons for every week of the school year. Students say the sounds with you (decoding) on the “sound chip” PowerPoint slides. (First, when the sound chips slide into their sound boxes, and then again when the letters drop into the sound chips.) The arrow reminds students to blend the sounds together and decode the word. This also reminds students to attend to each sound individually as they learn to spell the word.

Next, have students use dry erase boards to write/spell the words (encoding). Ask students to underline the vowel. Vowels are always SO difficult for our students to master, so we want them to focus on finding them. Vowels “control” the syllable and help us determine where to divide syllable as well.

Teach students to spell words in chunks or breaking the word down by syllables. Some kids believe that spelling is memorizing the string of letters in a word. This really blocks the flow of writing.

You may wish to edit or customize these slides. You are welcome to insert duplicate slides and change
the words…everything is “editable”. So please feel free to make it what your need for your individual classroom use.
