This is a completely differentiated reading and spelling program like nothing you have seen before. It puts the power back in the the learner's hands. Children can independently learn how to read, with guidance of adults in how to use the RAINforest Reading books. For example, there are sight word and phoneme-focused word cards that have the visual pronunciation on the back.
The second level of the program (Level 2 of 6) is called "The Sand."
Level 2: The Sand
In this level children get the basic foundations for reading. They will learn the 25 most common letters-picture-sound associations for single letters.
They will begin to read and write CVC words and use simple consonant blends at the beginning and end of words.
In this level, the stickers should be used to label any letters children do not yet know.
They can begin to learn some simple sight words using the sight word flashcards and play games to reinforce the connections between the pictures, sounds and letters.
Every part of the program was designed to build independence in reading and writing. You will be impressed with the results. The only thing you need to do to get started is to have children learn the 44 sound-picture tiles, which you can do for free at my website:
Once they learn these they will be able to use every part of this program independently. The program can be led by a teacher, homeschooling parent or reading tutor. Having a teacher reinforce the concepts is always beneficial, but since teachers have so many children to help, it is best for everyone to build independence. One special tool of the program is the stickers. Teachers can label any text with the stickers to make it comprehensible to learners (to make it 100 percent decodable!!). If you aren't sure about buying the whole program, you can buy just one level at a time. You can go to my website to find tools that will help you assess at which level the student(s) should begin the reading program.
