This is a sight word game called BAM! (a.k.a. "Oops" or by many other titles). This game features many of the third 100 Fry sight words (some from the second 100 words) and works best in small groups or partners.
To play, students take turns drawing a word from a Draw Pile or container (coffee can, envelope, etc.) and read the sight word on the card. If they get it correct, they keep that card and take another turn (until they get 5 correct in a row). If they are incorrect, they put the card underneath the Draw Pile (or back in the container) and it's the next person's turn. If they draw a BAM! card, the student/player must put ALL of their sight word cards back into the pile/container. This activity works well for sight word recognition (which helps to build oral reading fluency), as a literacy center activity, or as a "free time" game. It's also easy and ideal to send home with students!
