Part 1 Directions:
1. Buy jolly ranchers – I buy them for $2 a bag at Dollarama. You might find better deals at a Costco or bulk barn.
2. I would start by practicing the questions with them by you asking questions and they answer. You might have to model how to answer questions (in full sentences if you wish – I expect my Level 5 to answer in full sentences). I do not start with candy yet – just practicing. In Level 5, each colour has a choice of questions based on level easy to hard.
3. Practice until you think they can move to the next step – asking the questions. Practice with them asking students questions and students answering as already practiced.
Part 2 Directions:
1. Once you think they are ready, they can now move around the room and ask students the questions as projected on the board. As the teacher, move around and listen to your students. If you heart them properly askng the questions and answering, give them a jolly rancher (the colour according to the question they asked). I aim to give 2-3 jolly ranchers a student to motivate them to ask and answer the questions properly. You can give jolly ranchers for answering or asking questions – just make sure the colour corresponds to the question. This activity can take 30 minutes but if you have a class that struggles in these type of activities, you can do this as a in a desk activity (similar to my M&M activity for Level 3&4). If you run out of a colour of jolly ranchers to hand out, just cross it off and tell them to only ask the remaining colours questions.
This activity can be split into two classes if you have short class time for French.
