Product Description

Print 2-sided, cut on horizontal line, fold and staple in middle, each file makes two copies of the same book.

In this book, kids can discover steps in writing their own "How to Book". There are many labels for young writers to include in their own writings. Transitions are used, which can be modeled for young writers, too. There are several speech bubbles to show kids that they too can use speech bubbles in their writings. Extra spacing between words help young learners with tracking words and also shows them to include spacing when writing their own stories. Use this story with beginning readers/writers or as an early intervention tool for older students.

Teachers never have enough leveled readers. Add this book to your library of books in your classroom and for sending home for guided reading practice with parents. Labels within the drawings help students with vocabulary. Labels provide students with samples to include in their own writing. For young learners writing and reading should be taught together as often as possible. You will find up to two lines of text maximum per page. This book allows kids to discuss about things they know about snow and how to write their own sequence book. Questions can be easily asked to guide students with reading comprehension. I have leveled this book at a level C. Write me a note if you feel that it should be labeled at a different level. Thank you. See text of book below.

Sincerely,

Alberto Gutierrez (retired Kindergarten teacher)

How To Make A Snowman text:

  • First, you need lots of snow.
  • Before you can make a snowman, you need snow.
  • It will be cold outside.
  • Before you begin building a snowman, dress in warm clothes.
  • You will need a coat, pants, warm cap, mittens or gloves.
  • You are now warm to build your snowman.
  • Begin with a strong base or foundation.
  • Be careful, each ball of snow will be very heavy. (one speech bubble)
  • You can build on top of the base because snow is heavy. (one speech bubble)
  • How many parts do you want your snowman to have? (one speech bubble)
  • Next, build the last part of your snowman. (one speech bubble)
  • If you want snowman to last, you will need to pack the snow.
  • Packing the snow means to pat the snow until it gets hard.
  • After you pack the snow, you are ready to decorate.
  • First, find something to make buttons for your snowman. (one speech bubble)
  • Next, you need to find things for the face. (one speech bubble)
  • Then, find some branches to use as the arms.
  • Then, ask your mom for an old scarf and an old cap.
  • You have made a snowman!
  • What do you like playing in the snow?

  • (Suggestion: Teach young learners to discuss things that people can do in the snow. This is the beginning for organizing thoughts and ideas. Ask young writers to use book as a model for their own sequence writing. Ask them to draw and label before writing the body of the paper. Include transitions and speech bubbles whenever possible.)
