Do you have Harcourt Trophies Leveled Readers?
Are they still leveled Below Level Reader, On Level Reader and Advanced Level Reader?
Are you looking for another way to use them that is more aligned with the MCLASS 3D Reading Assessment?
The attachment consists of 5 guided reading books
I created a check off sheet that I give to my students at the beginning of the week so they can work with their guided reading group more independently. This allows me to work with my lower level students.
The check off paper is a "road map" for my students and lets them know what to do during guided reading. The process becomes so routine that they eventually do not need the check off paper.
**Except after Christmas I change the summary component to an opinion paper.
Each day, they work through a series of events related to their weekly guided reading book for 30-40 minutes.
Monday - work with a partner on sight words, read new guided reading book, answer text-based questions (included)
Tuesday - work with a partner on sight words, partner read, answer skill based questions (included)
Wednesday - work with a partner on sight words, write a book summary (criteria included)
Thursday - work on activity related to book
Friday - Finish activity related to book
The skill sheets are aligned to the ELA Common Core Standards based on the level of the book. The higher the book... the higher the common core standard. I created them because my students were having a difficult time answering the written comprehension questions on the MCLASS 3D Dibels Reading Assessment each quarter. I wanted something for them to practice with as they read their guided reading books each week. I also wanted something that would allow me to assist other students and would not be busy work for them.
My students love the way we do guided reading and look forward to their new book each week.
I have included the WORD version and the PDF version in a zip file in case you want to make changes for personal use.
