Do you ever have those parents who ask you to send home a book list at their child's "level?" Or maybe to send home other activities to keep their child from making that summer regression? If so, here is a simple booklet you can send home with very little assembly. This journal is used to promote summer reading at a child's "just right" or independent Fountas and Pinnell level. There is a book list with books at the specific level seperated by genre, checklist template for the child to keep track of other books chosen to read over the summer that are not on the list, and empty lines for the child to write about their reading. My students use the lines as their reader response journal (they have been writing in one all year long), where they can write letters to me and return the journal next year for a "prize"--a new book!
