I recently created this level of questions diagram for some teachers who were needing help to get their students to create the best questions to use with their Cornell Notes. Their students were not using higher level questions. After making this diagram, students added it to their interactive student notebook (ISN), and they were using this to determine some questions that would make them and their classmates think deeper about the concepts they were learning. The teacher required a certain number of questions from various levels on this diagram.
This diagram gives students a clear example of three levels of questions. The stems encourage students to go deeper with their thinking as they examine the easy, medium, and hard questions. The three story house serves a great illustration to help students grasp this idea.
