Want to get your students thinking critically about the information they are reading? This product is for you! This product will help you get your students to think critically about the most important information in any type of text (obviously some texts lend themselves better to this activity than others). The activity is introduced using the story of Cinderella – a story almost every student is familiar with. This story will help illustrate the four different levels of questioning!
The teacher reads through the story with the students and then talks about the level of questions that can be asked about the text (page 5). The first step after reading the story is to have the students come up with at least 3 “level one” questions. After that, have the students come up with 3 “level two” questions and then 3 “level three” questions. The last level – “level four” – requires the students to come up with abstract questions that are not related to the text (I have provided examples). Lastly, the students can either discuss or write out their answers to the questions.
This activity is ready to use!
