These Travel-themed Self-assessment Posters are a valuable tool that can help your students take responsibility for their learning.
After teaching a new concept, have the students do a reflective self-assessment of how well they understand the material. Have them tell you their title “Expert, Practitioner, Apprentice, or Novice” or use their fingers and hold up their number (1-4) of comprehension.
This allows the teacher to see, at a glance, which students are mastering the subject and which need some reinforcement. It can also be helpful when partnering students together.
In my classroom, I also would have the students do a silent self-reflection and just write the number (1-4) in the top corner of their paper (on an assignment, a test, etc.) for me to see how they felt about their understanding of the material.
