This hands-on lesson plan is to be used in conjunction with the Black Gems in STEM workbook. The lesson plan, which focuses on inventor Lewis Latimer, teaches students about how light bulbs work. This is taught through text and an easy to understand diagram. In addition to the explanation of how light bulbs work, the lesson plan outlines two projects dealing with powering the light bulb. In the first mini-project, the students will learn how to create a simple electric circuit, powering a light bulb with a battery. In the second mini-project, the students will learn how to create hydroelectricity. The project involves powering a light bulb with water. Check the website in the near future for video demonstrations!
