This lesson can be modified to meet the needs of you and your students; it can be made to be 30 minutes (quick) or 50 minutes (moderate) depending on your class and how quick or slow you'd like to go.
The PowerPoint starts with Learning Targets, then students work with an elbow partner to do a beginning activity (duration of activity is modifiable and written into the PowerPoint). Speaking points are bullet-ed in the presentation. Students are given an 1802 US map to show about what maps looked like that were used by the Corps of Discovery, students are also given a modern US map in which they highlight or color-in the states that Lewis and Clark went through as well as the rivers and territories they travel through (all mentioned in the PowerPoint--when you mention it, have students highlight/color it in. They can do this on both maps or just one).
Students use the Note Taking Graphic Organizer with its prompts to write down the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How of the lesson. The lesson concludes with written Formative Assessment questions which includes a Teacher Rubric.
Hope you and your students enjoy this lesson learning about Lewis and Clark's Expedition West!!
