Description

This editable library orientation scavenger hunt is perfect for Back to School! It's an easy, fun way for students to independently explore the library while locating important items that they will need regularly throughout the school year.

Learn more about your students with my Reading Interest Survey!

Recommended for: Grades 5-8

The Scavenger Hunt includes:

--Scavenger Hunt grid (3 pages, editable)

--24 printable QR codes (4 pages, PDF)--these will work for any location in your library. Just print, write the location in the blank, and cut.

--PowerPoint directions for students (9 slides, all text is editable)

--Directions for librarians and teachers (1 page, tips and prep)

Your students will need:

--pen or pencil

--ipad or student's phone with QR reader app

--not needed: internet connection (the QR codes will scan without it)

Directions for students: Locate the items on the grid and scan the QR codes to unscramble the secret message.

The secret message is a quotation from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire:

"Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open." --Dumbledore, The Goblet of Fire

I use this quote in the next library lesson to discuss how reading helps us learn about and understand people with backgrounds different from our own. I then booktalk titles with themes of acceptance and understanding of differences.
