February is Black History Month. We are always taught that skills are best learned at ‘point of need.’ When students are learning about famous people in their classrooms, take advantage of the opportunity to teach the organization of the Biography section of the library.
Library Task Cards: Biography are designed to be used with several different grades by providing extension activities that go beyond basic book location. If appropriate, work with the classroom teacher to create a collaboration between the library and the classroom.
Included in this packet are:
32 pictured task cards that direct students to find a book about a famous African-American. Blanks are provided for you to write in additional names if you wish. Also included are response sheets to jot down up to 3 facts about the person once the book has been located.
**Before purchasing, please check to see if you have biographies about the majority of the names included. They are:
Booker T. Washington
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Sarah E. Goode
Mary Lou Williams
Sarah Breedlove Walker
George Washington Carver
*Tuskegee Airman (collective biography)
