Crash! Boom! Pow!
This handout provides an overview of Roy Lichtenstein's famous pop art works of art. Specifically, it discusses features of his works--flat colors and patterns, graphic black outlines, and use of primary colors.
It also introduces students to the concept of action words (onomatopoeia). Students will choose an example of onomatopoeia and base an artwork off of it, focusing on characteristics of Lichtenstein's works. The guidelines of the project are outlined on this handout; it's simple enough for a sub day, but can be extended with more detail for an in-depth project. A basic but easy way to incorporate some ELA into your art class.
