Included in this pack is 3 activities to go along with the "Life Cycle of a Chicken (Adapted Book)" Each of the 3 activities are differentiated on multiple levels to meet the needs of various types of learners.

Activity 1: Vocabulary - Students will identify vocabulary related the life cycle of a chicken that is included (and highlighted) within the adapted book. Vocabulary includes: life cycle, egg, hatchling, chick and chicken.

Level A: Students match 2x2 picture to picture.
Level B: Students match 2x2 picture & word to large word.
Level C: Students match words to their picture.
Level D: Students match words to their picture & trace.
Level E: Students use a word bank to write the vocabulary word that corresponds to each picture.

Activity 2: Comprehension - Students will identify facts from the story that are associated with each of the vocabulary words.
Facts:
I show how animals grow and change. =life cycle
I am an adult and I can lay eggs. =chicken
I have a hard shell to protect the baby chicken that grows inside. =egg
I use my beak to break the egg so I can hatch. =hatchling
I am still young and need my mom to take care of me. I love worms! =chick

Simplified terms: (visuals for both the vocabulary word & facts)
egg = grows inside (with visual of baby chicken growing inside the egg)
hatchling = breaks egg (with visual of a broken egg)
chick = loves worms (with visual of a worm)
chicken = lays eggs (with visual of a nest with eggs)
(life cycle omitted)

Level A: Matching simplified terms with color coding cues.
Level B: Matching simplified terms without color coding.
Level C: Matching pictures to sentence facts (with visuals for reading support).
Level D: Matching words to sentence facts (with and without visuals for reading support).
Level E: Matching words to sentence facts & tracing (with and without visuals for reading support).
Level F: Using a word bank to write the words that correspond to each sentence fact. (no visuals for reading support)

Activity 3: Sequencing the Life Cycle of a Chicken - Students will expand their comprehension by being able to sequence the life cycle of a chicken as they have learned within the adapted book (egg, hatchling, chick, chicken).

Level A: Matching picture to picture with color coding.
Level B: Matching picture to picture without color coding.
Level C: Using pictures to identify the life cycle of a chicken independently.
Level D: Using pictures to identify the life cycle of a chicken independently and then matching the name of the stage to each picture. (i.e. matching the picture of the egg to the word "egg")
Level E: Using pictures to identify the life cycle of a chicken independently and then matching the name of the stage to each picture. Students will then trace the name of each stage.
Level F: Using pictures to identify the life cycle of a chicken independently and then using a word bank to write the name of the stage that corresponds to each picture.
