  • a 16-slide PowerPoint to cover lyric poetry basics with teacher's notes
  • 10-question lyric poetry quiz
  • quiz answer key
  • BONUS Essay Addition: Now included with this product is an essay in which students compare and contrast Vinny from "The Ravine" with the speaker from "Life Doesn't Frighten Me."

You can open any PowerPoint file in Google Slides. Read this quick how-to if you need to convert any PowerPoint to Slides.

The PowerPoint covers the topics found in the teacher's edition of the Grade 6 HMH Collections Textbook. This is used to get your students familiar with the very basic elements of lyric poetry. The quiz is 10 questions long with four multiple choice and six long answer questions. It is a skills quiz, not a recall quiz for "Life Doesn't Frighten Me." A new poem is presented and students must demonstrate that they understand the elements taught during the "Life Doesn't Frighten Me" lesson.

The bonus essay is for added rigor or high achieving students. It includes a rubric and an essay planning sheet.
