This bundle includes 8 lesson plans, a project rubric, a homework handout, and sample check list for what to include in the life map.
I used this as my first project of the year, taught in September, right after the "first three days" lessons. The life map begins with a visual representation of the student's life, from first words to what they plan on doing in the future. After this map is completed and decorated, students complete a writing assignment using the life map as a guide. This was initially designed to be a 12 paragraph essay, but I simplified it to 3, and used this unit to teach/remind students how to organize their ideas into a beginning, middle, and end. This unit is versatile in this way, and you can use it how you wish.
Lessons include going through each step of the writing process from prewriting to publishing.
The art work with the writing piece make for a nice beginning of the year bulletin board!
The lessons use the workshop model and have a checkbox for the teacher to circle which standards they are using in the lesson. While they list ESL standards and were used in a classroom with ESL students, these lessons are appropriate for students of all abilities.
