Product Description
Life Science Stations for Fourth Grade is a BUNDLE of the following stations:

See each individual set of stations for a preview:
Structure & Function: How Organisms Live, Behave, Reproduce, Grow
Information Processing: Making Sense of the World

★ Save 20% by purchasing this BUNDLE over purchasing each set of stations individually ★

Stations Include with each unit:
Watch - Students watch a video about the concept and answer questions.
Play - Student interact with a video game about the concept. They then respond to questions about their experience.
Investigate - Students investigate the concept and answer questions.
Diagram - Students diagram about the concept and answer questions about it.
Read a Passage - Students read a passage and answer questions about the concept.
Model - Students model the concept and answer questions about their models.
Explore - Students explore the concept and questions about it.
Sort - Students do a sort about the concept and explain their reasoning.

Structure & Function 4-LS1.A
In Fourth Grade, students are expected to “construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction” (4-LS1-1). This correlates with the DCI 4-LS1.A, which states, “Plants and animals have both internal and external structures that serve various functions in growth, survival, behavior, and reproduction.” All stations in this set meet the DCI, helping students gain an understanding of the biological principle that “form fits function,” or organisms’ structures are necessary for survival of the organism and of the species. The Investigate and Model stations go into more detail and help students construct arguments that specific structures are necessary for specific functions in the organism’s life, as outlined in the Performance Expectation.

Information Processing 4-LS1.D
By working through this set of stations, students will gain a robust understanding of the properties of how the body processes the information it receives from the environment. All stations in this set meet the DCI 4-LS1.D, helping students gain an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of sensory systems in humans and animals. The Investigate, Diagram, and Model stations go into more detail and help students use models to describe how sensory systems enable an organism to gather information about their environment, process the information, and respond to it.

In Fourth Grade, students are expected to “Use a model to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brain, and respond to the information in different ways.” (4-LS1-2). This correlates with the DCI 4-LS1.D, which states, “Different sense receptors are specialized for particular kinds of information, which may be then processed by the animal’s brain. Animals are able to use their perceptions and memories to guide their actions.”

Differentiated Responses
Each station includes four different ways to respond to the experience at the station: short answer questions, fill-in the blank questions, task cards with short answers, task cards with multiple choice. All the variations are similar to one another. Choose the format that best fits your classroom and students. Students are encouraged to use their science journal, but worksheets are included as well.

Some stations include two or more activity choices and extension activities.

Each station is designed to last about 15-20 minutes. Students may do one a day for 8 days, 2 a day for four days, or any format that works for your classroom. Because there are additional activities for the Watch and Play stations, you can offer those as a choice within that station or offer them as an early finisher station, as well.

See the preview for additional information and details.

Additional Science Stations are also available.
