This is a fun project that allows you to assess a student's understanding of adaptation, camoflage, characteristic, mutualism, and mimicry. Students are given one of six project sheets that identifies their creature as either a vertebrate or invertebrate. Students then create a creature from the real world or from their imagination that meets the criteria on their paper.
Also included in the packet is a short answer form, a rubric, and three assessments. In addition I have added four detailed lessons that can be adapted to your curriculum.
I have used this project as part of a life science unit in a rotation taught to hundreds of students over the years and they love it! It has given me a way to clearly assess student knowledge that allows me to reteach if needed in order to prepare my students for state testing.
Duration can vary. I used this in a rotation that lasted 4 weeks.
